40 Million Dollars In a Galaxy Not So Far Away

George Lucas was so nervous that Star Wars wouldn't be a big hit that when he visited the set of another science fiction film being made by his friend Steven Spielberg he became even more nervous about the potential success of Star Wars. He told Spielberg that Close Encounters of the Third Kind was going to be a huge hit and he offered to trade 2.5% of Star Wars for 2.5% for Encounters. Spielberg decided it was worth the risk, and needless to say it was. As of an article in 2014, Spielbergs extra profit was clocking in somewhere in the 40 million dollar range...and counting.

Chevy Chase and the Bet Against Rocky
