Not Everything Is What It Says on the Tin

Life is full of false advertising. Labels lie. Names mislead. And sometimes what you sign up for… is absolutely not what you get.

Take a few examples:

  • The History Channel – Less World War II documentaries, more guys shouting about pyramids and aliens.

  • Koala Bears – They’re not bears. They’re closer to rats with chlamydia. Cute rats, but still.

  • Hobo Bags – Not the iconic stick-and-bundle for rail-riding wanderers. Just overpriced purses that can’t even carry a decent bindle snack.

  • Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch (Moxley vs. Omega) – “Exploding” turned out to mean “a couple of sparklers from the 4th of July.” Nobody exploded, nobody died. Disappointing.

  • Radio Flyers – Spoiler: they don’t fly. At best, they coast downhill until you bail.

  • Fun Size Candy Bars – Nothing fun about less chocolate. False advertising in miniature form.

  • Great White Sharks – Not actually white. Also, not that great if you’re on the swimming end of things.

  • Hot Dogs – Neither hot (by default) nor dogs (thankfully).

  • Greenland & Iceland - Yeah, they should really trade names.

  • Reese's - How dare Reese put a possessive apostrophe on his candy. When I buy it, it's mine.

  • Comic Books - Love em, but let's be honest. They're magazines.

  • To Catch a Predator - No Arnold, no Jesse the Body, no ancient alien hunting action, just a bunch of the worst people ever created.

  • The Sixth Sense - He's not really using a "sixth" sense. Seeing ghosts is still "seeing," which is one of the original five senses we already knew about, Haley Joel.

You get the point—names don’t always tell the truth.

Establishing and maintaining boundaries is an important life skill, and research suggests that responsible gambling practices, such as online gambling, might help people hone these abilities.  These abilities can help you in ways that are not directly related to gambling.
